111th Boston Marathon

Friday, April 13th, 2007

This weekend is the 111th running of the Boston Marathon. The weather certainly looks like it will be a factor this year (isn’t it always?) with rain, and maybe even snow, predicted for what will be a cold race day.

Blaine Moore, at Run to Win, has a post on where the name “Heartbreat Hill” comes from. As part of his post, he’s used one of my photos from flickr taken on the day Dean Karnazes was in Boston during the Endurance 50. I’m flattered!

Good luck to everyone running this coming Monday! Hopefully there will be no broken hearts this year.

Reach the Beach 2006

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

This past weekend (September 15-16) was the 8th Reach the Beach Relay (RTB); a crazy event which involves teams running 210 miles from Bretton Woods to Hampton Beach through the back roads of New Hampshire.

I’ve wanted to do this race for a couple of years, but good teams can be hard to get on and it hasn’t fit in with other things I’ve been doing. Only a week before the event this year, due to injury, I was asked to fill in a spot on Kicking Asphalt — a team comprised of people who informally run out of Marathon Sports. With nothing else planned for the weekend, and already in training for the BAA half, I jumped at the chance to participate. (more…)

Run Forrest, run!

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

Another couple of Google Maps mashups, this time for calculating mileage of a run or ride:

  • gmap-pedometer.com slightly confusing at first (I actually had to read the instructions!) but very slick. I particularly like the mile markers, and way it tries to stay on the road.
  • MapYourRun has potential, but seems a bit buggy for now.

A similar site, walk.jog.run., allows you to create and share routes.

Half Marathon des Deux-Rives

Half Marathon des Deux-Rives (Levis-Quebec, Canada)
August 28, 2005 at 8:30am

Place/Tot Div/Tot Div Guntime Nettime Pace Ag Race#
--------- ------- ----- ------- ------- ---- -- -----
186/1155 165/775 M3039 1:39:10 1:38:23 7:30 34 6593

Splits: 0-11.1km 52m38, 11.1-21.1km 46m34. Good weather, some rain but not cold. Perhaps too much of a -ve split: the big hill turned out to be not so big! Excellent starting pace given the unknown course.
